ThinkData Ed Launches Week-Long Summer Data Science Camps for Middle & High School Students

IDS Summer Data Camps

April 30, 2026

ThinkData Ed has announced the launch of its new week-long virtual data science summer camps, designed to help students build foundational skills in data analysis, statistical reasoning, and coding through live, instructor-led learning.

Each camp is structured as a standalone experience, allowing students to enroll in one or multiple weeks depending on their interests. The program introduces students to real-world data, industry-standard tools, and practical applications of data science concepts in an accessible, structured format.

“Students are surrounded by data every day, but very few are taught how to actually interpret it, question it, or use it to support their thinking,” said Dr. Tim Jacobbe, Executive Director at ThinkData Ed. “These camps are designed to change that by giving students both the tools and the framework to work with data in a meaningful way.”

The summer program includes three distinct camp offerings:

Week 1: Food for Thought – Visualizing the World Through Data

Students learn how to collect, organize, and visualize real-world data while developing foundational coding skills in R using Posit Cloud. The week also introduces ethical considerations around data privacy and responsible data use.

Week 2: True Colors – Decoding Personality Through Center & Spread

This week focuses on statistical reasoning, teaching students how to analyze distributions, compare groups, and interpret variability using measures such as mean, median, and interquartile range. Students learn to support their conclusions with quantitative evidence.

Week 3: If This, Then That – Predicting the World With Probability

Students explore probability, simulation, and decision-making under uncertainty. Topics include conditional probability, categorical analysis, and evaluating fairness and independence in real-world scenarios.

Throughout the camps, students use industry-standard technology, and instruction is delivered live via Zoom, allowing students to interact with instructors and peers while working through guided exercises and projects.

The camps are designed for students with a range of interests, including those who enjoy problem-solving, analyzing patterns, or exploring how data applies to areas such as sports, social trends, public health, and technology. No prior coding experience is required.

By the end of each camp, students will have hands-on experience working with data, creating visualizations, and communicating their findings clearly, skills that support future experience in statistics, data science, and many other related fields.

Enrollment is now open. Each camp can be attended independently or combined for a more comprehensive experience.
