PD Model
SCALE Immersion Model for Professional Learning (SIMPL)
Our professional development (PD) program for new data science teachers follows a modified version of the SCALE Immersion Model for Professional Learning (SIMPL). Teachers assume the roles of both educators and learners, allowing for comprehension and understanding of concepts through multiple lenses.
In the IDS version of SIMPL, teachers are immediately first immersed into the curriculum as learners to grasp key statistical and computational concepts embedded in the curriculum, including the Data Cycle.
After this immersive learning experience, teachers transition back to their roles as educators to reflect on content and pedagogy through their expert lens. We emphasize inquiry-based teaching strategies designed to engage all students actively in the learning process.
