ThinkData Ed Summer Camp Week 1: Food for Thought
July 6-10, 2026
Food for Thought: Visualizing the World Through Data
This week is all about turning messy real-world information into clear visuals and meaningful insights. Students learn how data is collected, organized, graphed, and interpreted, and how to communicate what they find.
By the end of Week 1, students will be able to:
- ✔ Collect, organize, and visualize real-world data
- ✔ Ask meaningful statistical questions
- ✔ Interpret distributions and relationships
- ✔ Code using R in an industry-standard environment
- ✔ Apply ethical thinking about privacy and data sharing
- ✔ Communicate insights using graphs and evidence
Why Attend this Session?
During ‘Food for Thought,’ students shift from passive consumers of information to active creators who can use data to solve problems.
Learn Professional Tools
Build foundational skills in R and RStudio, the same coding language used by data scientists at companies like Google and Netflix.
Modern Literacy
Move beyond reading charts to creating them, learning how to spot trends and communicate findings based on complex information.
Digital Ethics
Understand the “why” behind data privacy, teaching students how to protect their own information and respect others’ digital footprints.
Evidence-Based Communication
Practice presenting findings clearly so they can back up their opinions with hard facts and visual proof.
